Don't Get Hacked - Keep Your RuneScape Account Secure! »

Keep Your RuneScape Account Safe

If you don't take the necessary measures to secure your RuneScape account, e-mail account, and fan site account(s), you could get hacked! Be sure to read up on our latest account safety and security tips. Read the thread for full guidance, but here are a few of the basics:

  1. DO NOT use the same password for multiple sites! Use a different password for your RuneScape account, e-mail account, and fan site accounts!
  2. Use a separate GMail account for RuneScape and enable two-step verification! To be as secure as possible, create a new e-mail account ONLY for RuneScape (do not use it for fan sites or social media sites). Gmail is the best e-mail host, partly because they offer two-step verification. This will ensure that the only way someone can access your e-mail account is if they have your mobile phone. That should only be you!
  3. All of your passwords should be lengthy and complex. DO NOT use dictionary words or anything containing personal information. Passwords like "ilovecats" or "chocolate" or your birthday are NOT good passwords. A good password should contain numbers, letters, and if possible - symbols. The longer the password, the better.
  4. Your recoveries should NOT be guessable! Make sure the answers cannot be found on any of your online profiles or social media sites. The best recovery answers are actually those that are unrelated to the question and only make sense to you!
  5. Set a bank PIN and always deposit your valuables before logging out! There is NO reason to not use a bank PIN. It could save your items if your account is ever compromised!
  6. Do not fall for phishing scams! Jagex will NEVER e-mail you to say that your account has been placed in a "danger zone," etc. Furthermore, there is never a reason to click on links in e-mails. If an e-mail tries to redirect you to the RuneScape account page, DO NOT click the link. Instead, go to RuneScape.com manually and navigate to the page yourself.
